About You

The Coal Authority are a statutory consultee for planning applications on the high risk areas of the former UK coalfield. Our work involves assessing planning consultations and responding to a diverse variety of applications. This makes it interesting and rewarding without the pressures of committee cycles and those issues that can affect many of the applications which planners deal with.

 

If you are a chartered Town Planner with significant experience of working as a case officer in LPA Development Management and want to work in a friendly and supportive environment then we want to hear from you!

Do you want to join a small and high performing Planning team providing advice and guidance to Local Planning Authorities and others in the development industry on land stability issues arising from past coal mining activity?  

 

If so, read on….

You will be a chartered town planner with substantial post qualification experience in an LPA development management role, including experience of dealing with a case load of major applications. 

 

You will have experience of effective line management  

 

You will have detailed knowledge and understanding of the policy, legislation and the principles of the overall planning system including the variations between the systems in England, Scotland and Wales. 

 

You will be an excellent communicator, able to deal with people confidently, persuasively and with sensitivity, with the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure. 

About The Role

You will deliver the Coal Authority’s advice to Local Planning Authorities including assessing incoming consultation requests and associated supporting information, considering the Authority’s data, liaising with technical specialists where necessary, and responding appropriately and in a timely manner verbally, in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.

 

As Team Leader you will provide direction and guidance to the Planning team responsible for responding to planning consultations.  This role is a great opportunity to develop your experience of team management and leadership, including accessing organisation wide leadership development and learning opportunities.

 

You will support the Principal Manager in the day-to-day management of the planning consultation responding process including identification and resolution of issues, performance monitoring and staff training. 

 

You will assist the Principal Manager, as necessary, in liaising with external stakeholders and Government bodies, including reviewing consultation requests and related documents and preparing responses as appropriate.

 

Role location: Mansfield –

Hybrid working - attendance at the office will be required for training and management related activities
